This is the first in a series of paintings that I am doing, where the subject matter are animals that had a big impact on my life growing up on a ranch.
Over the years we had a variety of ranch dogs, but my favourite were always the border collies. These dogs were so smart and so friendly that it was impossible not to love them. Strangely, I struggled more with the background and the foreground, than I did with the dogs themselves. I still haven’t progressed past the point where I second guess myself.
Border collies love to work and they love to be challenged. This painting tries to capture that sense of alert intelligence so common to the breed. These dogs are ready to GO!
