It seems that all the Eagles and Owls that live on our acreage, have come to an agreement. The Eagles mostly hunt fish out of the ocean, the Owls go for small mammals on land. The eagles are easy to find as they either nest on the big tree behind the house or use a tall tree at the top of the bank to rest between fishing forays. Owls, on the other hand, are a little harder to locate. We usually hear them in the evenings hooting away deep in the forest, but seeing them is challenging and getting a good picture even more so. This little painting was based on a photo of a Barn Owl landing on a fence post in the evening light. It reminded me of the summer evening light slanting through our forest. I’ll add this to my ever-growing collection of bird paintings.
