This is a quick study painting based on a photo I took as the sun hit Uluru/Ayers Rock at 6:58 AM. Although the foreground was still in shade from the curvature of the Earth, Uluru itself was already on fire from the sunrise. The Rock is probably 20 kilometres away, which gives you a sense of how big it is. The colours of the rock reflecting the morning sun were spell binding (unfortunately, I couldn’t get the acrylic paint to do them justice).
There were two things I wanted to work on with this study. The first was to work more with soft edges and graduation of colour. The second was to play with the perspective using unusual colours. Usually with landscapes the warmer colours are closer and the cooler colours further away. In the case of this study, those rules have been flipped. I will take another kick at this subject matter, I’ve got few ideas floating around in my head. Stay tuned.
