I wanted to practice creating a sense of ‘texture’ in my paintings. I also wanted to limit the palette and try more saturated colours. For this practice, I chose a photo I took when visiting the Botanical Gardens in Buenos Aires. They have a spectacular selection of plants and I got a number of reference photos that will probably turn into paintings some day. I thought that this particular cactus would be useful in practicing a more abstract style of painting. It wasn’t exactly the painting that I envisioned, but it’s not a failure either.
