Our home is at the top of a bluff that looks over the Salish Sea. To get down to the shore, is a drop of about 50 feet (accessed by a ramp that is pretty spectacular in it’s own right). At the bottom, is a stretch of beach that is the perfect place to sit and contemplate life. I wanted to capture the view looking down the strait towards Vancouver. This section of the coast was formed by glaciers, so the beach front is thick with large boulders and rocks rolled smooth from the endless wave action. You can’t tell from this painting, but the larger rocks right at the edge of the water are actually about 7 feet tall.
The original purpose of this painting was to practice painting rocks, but it was really the view that hooked me.  Watching the winter wind blow up the Malaspina strait is one of my favourite past-times and I can almost feel the brisk wind blowing into my face.
