It’s been a long and winding road, but this is my 100th painting.  Over eight and a half years, I’ve explored different subjects, techniques and mediums.  Step by step, I’ve found my style (or it’s found me) and I am finally beginning to create the kind of paintings that have been knocking around inside my head before, with no way to get out.

Although, 100 paintings is a somewhat arbitrary sign post, it is worth taking a moment to see where I’ve come from and think about where I want to go from here.  I have a long list of things I want to paint, so I don’t expect to run out of ideas any time soon.

In this painting, I tried to capture an aspect of the Salish Sea that few tourists see.  Winter weather on the coast does lean towards grey and drab, but occasionally, when the conditions are right, we get spectacular sunsets that allow me to express my love of colour.  This is a view from our beach front looking to the West towards the early setting sun.  The patterns created by the silhouette of Alder branches was what first drew me to this landscape, but the more I looked, the more I wanted to explore the colours of the sunlight reflected on the clouds.

Although this painting is full of colour and exhuberance, hence it’s name “Blazing Glory”, I also find that this landscape has a very tranquil, peaceful tone.  A quiet winter evening, just before night falls.
