SOLD “Glorious” (98)

Painted in March/April, 2026. 12”x12”.  Acrylic on stretched canvas.  Price $180.00 Cdn. Unframed

This is my seventh painting of a chicken over an eight-year period.  I can see a definite evolution in my style as interpreted through this simple barnyard fowl.  My technique is becoming more refined with a gentle hand on the brush and an increase in contrast between background and foreground. To heighten the colours and give it more depth, I finished the painting by applying a highly saturated glaze. I particularly like how this brightens up the painting and makes the subject pop. Glazing also helps reduces the “flat effect” of acrylic paint.  It’s the perfect painting for a small space in need of a smile. Also, for some reason that I haven’t been able to fathom, this painting sold before I’d even finished the last layer of glaze. I do not know why chicken paintings are so popular, but fortunately, I enjoy painting them.
